1/200 U-boat conning tower support cables.

My first project in May is to finish a 1/200 type IXc U-boat that has been sitting since October because I can't ventilate my hobby room in the winter
I'm not sure what would be the best material to use for the conning tower cables. I was thinking of using thread run through beeswax, but looking for anything that might be better.
