red coat figures

Very nice figures, well done :-)

I did the hat out of round 1,5 mm (or 1 mm ?) Evergreen rod that I flattened with some pliers to give it an oval shape. The rim is out of paper flooded with CA - my favourite expression from Phillip Reed.

To place the hat I had a headsectomy, just chopped the surplus brain off. Marines do not have to think, they have to obey ;-)

By the way, the officers still had the long tails on the back of the coat.

Also I advise to paint the trowsers white, as the plastic turns out brown if exposed to UV-light (sun and normal indirect light). That would give trouble at the next inspection!

dafi ,- how did you make your hat's for the marines , I was thinking of cutting up some black drinking straws , and did you use styrene for the white sash's over their chest's ??

I have a bit of tidying up to do but they look better not so magnified

Well;

 Don , the two I used to use went Belly up because of different things . One , business related and one personal .

  The second one really hurt .The first , Well , I don't build large ship models that much anyway . The Second had many , many great parts . Now we're left with what we would've passed on , before .  T.B.

For the shaft I used 0,5 mm x 0,75 mm Evergreen as a base. Then the proportions will me just right.

there are no good figures for 1:100 once the stock of the sailors from USS Constitution and Cutty Sark (both Revell) is taken ...

The only good solution is to use modified Preiser 1:100, in my logs it is shown on several occasions how to do.

Same here. There is one fella in the Grand rapids IPMS that builds plastic sailing ships, Rod Millard, one other that has had a 1/350 carrier on the bench about 1 1/2 years, and me - I do plastic carriers and military ships, wood sailboats and utility craft. Out of 45 members in the club. By the way, all the pictures I've posted on this site are no longer available, due to photobucket's new policy. A couple thousand photo's I've posted here and several other ship and modeling forums are no longer visible. Lots of time and work down the drain. Not sure if I'll try to post any photo's any more. A couple of forums I used to post on have also shut down too. Again, lots of time gone. PB wants a credit card to auto pay the fee from. I don't feel comfortable giving anyone any financial info under any circumstances. EJ

I have been disappointed in the lines carried by both ME and BJ.  Far fewer parts than fornerly- both are now concentrating on kits.  I find fewer modeling friends doing scratch ships.  In fact, I belong to two modeling clubs that are multi-genre, and find ship modeling in general is in decline.  I can remember when there were about six mail order places for ship modeling supplies.

 

no way mate , I learn too much of off you , I have all of dafi's victory build, all 134 pages of it , and he hasn't started the real rigging yet .  I'm not up too that standard , on pete coleman's site is michael's victory , almost talked myself into having a go at that type of build .I'm trying to build the courage up too have a go LOL

You are looking for Royal Marines.

 

I don't remember what scale they were, or whether they still carry them, but Model Expo used to carry navy figures.  I know 1:96 is a popular model ship scale, and is pretty close to 1:100, so I would check there.  You also might check with Bluejacket.
