USS UNITED STATES

To all those who may be concerned, and I know there are.
My name is Ed. Zimmerman, Jr. and I am the Founder and President of the USS UNITED STATES Foundation, First Ship of the United States Navy.
After a brief study I found that many of you have questions concerning the frigate UNITED STATES. I will be pleased and proud to answer your questions if I can. I have been gathering historical and construction data on the frigate US since 03 September, 1978. I am probably the most knowledgable person on her history and construction. However I do not know all the answers. There are over 20 volumes of ship's logs that are in danger of being lost to time. One of the goals of this foundation is to preserve her history. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at USSUNITEDSTATES@Yahoo.com, or give a message here on this site.
I will tell you this: Stay away from the Revelle model #05406 1:150. It is not the UNITED STATES. She had a poop deck on the stern. This kit does not have one. Try to get the 1:96 scale on ebay. This kit has the poop deck.

I have the honor to be at your service.

What other ships were in this class? Or were there others? I was thinking that the Constitution, Congress, and the President were all related. I know no two ships are exactly alike, but I thought these four were built on the same basic plans, were they?

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

I could be wrong but, President Washington asked for six frigates to be built or purchased at that time. I can't remember their names but I do believe that the USS Constellation was another.

I read John Adams last year by David Mccoullogh, and in that book, and I love US History, and I never knew this, Congress voted to create a Navy even before the Constitition and Declaration of Independance were signed.

Thank you jimz66.
I glad that you love American history .
Can you shed any light on Benedict Arnold's involvement in the U.S. Navy, such as it was at the time, during the battle of Lake Champlian?

Ed,
Thanks for offering your services. We need more researchers to help us out so we can spend more time cutting and glueing.Big Smile [:D]

The United States has been an interesting ship since it has so much contoversy. Are the logs really in danger of deterriotrating to nothing? I hope to model her sometime in my life, once I complete my Essex project. The frigate, not the whaler or the aircraft carrier.
