Again, thank you Bill for you faith in me. To scratch build requirews a complete set of plans from Caldercraft. Even then, to begin a scratch build would require some deep creative energy, with some doubts, as if I was walking on thin ice, fearing I would fall through. Don't put a bug in my head, as I would like to complete the sloop-of-war, HMS PELICAN.

Crackers,

I have seen photos of your outstanding work.  You once scratchbuilt a French frigate (if memory serves).  Perhaps scratch building the HMS Agamemnon might be overly complex, but you are certainly capable of tackling this kit.  I once doubted my own ability to build such kits; I have built quite a few of them over the years.  I have Agamemnon in my sights as well as the Amati HMS Vanguard.  I have built the HMS Bellona by Corel; she hold a place of pride on my mantle over my fireplace.

Bill, thanks for your faith in me. This model is for advance ship model builders. I do not think I have the talent to sratch build this model of such complexity.

I have a special savings account for just this purchase.  Give me another year. And, Crackers, don't you scratchbuild?  If so, you would be very able to build this kit!

Hi;

   The Agamemnon was to Nelson what the Constitution was to her Captain . The Constitution  was a far better sailer than the Constellation ( Ole Wagon ) and others of her type .The Victory was twitchy and the Sister was not much better The Agamemnon sailed like the series was supposed to in all weathers . Nelson was picky about ships performance at all times .

 I have seen no Plastic models of her , and the wood version has always eluded my finances .  But if you want the challenge and can fit her in your bank transactions , go for it . She'll keep you busy for quite a while .

Thanks for the heads up, Bill Morrison. Caldercraft does offer a kit for the 64 gun, HMS AGAMEMNON, but at a price that requires deep pockets to reach for $1099.99 without lose change. The kit is at a scale of 1/64, at a length of 51.2", height: 32.2", and a width of 19.1" The completed model does make an imposing body of work, if built by an experienced modeler.

The Nelson's Navy catalog from Caldercraft has an outstanding wood plank-on-bulkhead kit of this ship, although it is quite expensive at around $1,200.00.  I have seen one built and I recommend it highly.  Check it out.

HMS AGAMEMNON bombarding a Mediterranean fortifications, from a painting by Geoff Hunt. I am at mid-point reading the book, "Nelson's Favourite, HMS AGAMEMNON at War- 1781-1809", written by Anthony Deane, the direct decendent of Sir Anthony Dean, the 17th century ship architect for King Charles II. This book is a narrative of the 28 year career of the 64 gun ship of the line, HMS AGAMEMNON commanded between 1793 to 1796 by Nelson, who always refered to her as his favorite ship. AGAMEMNON fought in almost all of the major sea battles of the late 18th century, the Napoleonic Wars, of course Trafalgar, the West Indies, until wrecked at Maldonado Bay, Uruguary in 1809.

Is there a kit ship of this famous warship available to serious ship modelers ? Inquiring minds want to know.
