If it was possible to build a model of HMS TERROR, this is how the hull would appear. The hull is stubby and fat in appearance because this vessel was a former bomb ship, built to withstand the heavy and violent reaction to its bomb morters. For this reason, because of the its heavy construction, this ship was selected to withstand the crushing ice of the arctic.

Hey Crackers! Thanks for the info. Total scratchbuild is probably way outta my league at present, but who knows, down the road....?

Great info regardless...

Since there is no known kit of the HMS TERROR, this is the plan that would be used to scratch build a model of this arctic explorer vessel. The admiralty has a more detailed plan of this ship.

To my knowledge, there is no kit of the arctic explorer ships HMS EREBUS and TERROR, or even another type of vessel that can be scratch built as a replica of these two arctic explorers. With some research,  there are drawings of these two ships from the British admiralty collections that can be scratch built.

HMS Terror / Erebus

Hi folks. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any kits that would be close enough to the HMS Terror or the HMS Erebus to be useful as a conversion subject, or even a ready to build kit of these ships. I am not a "huge" ship builder but am really fascinated by the Franklin Expedition and would love to have some way of making these two ships. Thanks for any insight!
