A ship modeling friend gave me a wood kit of the Gjoa.  I think it is a Model Shipways kit.  Guess I should get around to putting it on my bench one of these days.  I have vowed that next year will be the year of the ship.  No more building a model for challenge contests, or to go after a best whatever award.  I may build a model or two of another genre, but I will be concentrating on ships!

Hi,

I first heard of him through some design work I was doing on a Fisheries Research Vessel (among other things the Norwegians have both an FFG and a Research vessel named after him).  He really seemed to have been an amazing man.

Google Doodle reminds us that Fridtjof Nansen would be 156 today.

I guess I'm a ship nut, but I do remember visiting his polar exploration ship Fram at the Fram Museum in Oslo, Norway. Amundsen's Gjoa is also there, and Kon-Tiki is nearby.

A model of Fram would be most welcome.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
