     I think there's a lot out there . It's just hard to find .I have even chopped up a " Titanic  " and changed the scale of it to build a yacht from the Twenties/Thirties . It matters a lot what kind of look you want as well .

 Do you want a presidential look like the " Potomac " or a " Christianson "  built mini-liner look . From the forties ? That takes a lot of scratch - building skills . But it can be achieved easily if you used  "found " parts .       T.B.

   All you have pictured I have used . Now as for the Minesweeper , well it has many uses .The U.S.S. Hazard is actually an Admirable Class Minesweeper !

 The list is long . As far as the Coronado and the Owens . Unless you are a glutton for punishment , I don't recommend either one . They are some of the roughest molds I've seen in years .

    Now that said .The Old Lindberg , Chris Craft Constellation Motoryacht and the 1/24 Sport Fisherman show up once in a while .They are pricey .

 There is a quirk about the " Sport Fisherman " that I discovered quite by accident . It seems that there is sharper detail inside the hull than on the outside . Maybe someone made the molds wrong ? Anyway , it looks like that is just what happened .

     The outside of the hull looks like a good deal except the things that should be sharp and clean ARE on the inside !

 There are a lot of vessels out there that fit the bill . The Revell  " Calypso " is a good one , Except you have to rework the bow heavily .

 There are more .

 I personally don't like the " Predator 108 " as an example of a real yacht . Just call it a bias about the strngth of fibreglass against real craftsmanship of wood . I guess I'm just " Old fashioned ".     T.B.

 I think you for one will be proud of me .I have arranged to have that instruction with a friend .You may see something soon . It might be like letting the cat out of the bag though . All kinds of mischief , Hmmmm ? T.B.

I wish yacht kits were more available (motor yachts, that is).  I see a few sailing yacht kits around, but those great motor yacht ones are really scarce these days, and both the cost and size of the big Dumas wood kits put me off.  Dumas does have a reasonably size and cost speedboat, and I do intend to buy one of those soon.  If a decent priced motor yacht kit (say fifty to seventy five bucks) with good accuracy and detail were available, I'd buy one.  I wouldn't want anything bigger than about 10-12 inches.

I've never built a ship of any type, but Ollies has a bunch of old Lindberg kits (shrimper, coast guard). I'm going to try an pick some up tomorrow. I would be interested in a thread because I am clueless into building "boats".

I've never done a yacht. I have done canoes, rowboats, Chesapeake Bay Flatties, large scale sailboat Lightning, Titanic lifeboat, etc. All in wood, some from kits, some scratchbuilt.. I find the big sailing ships too intimidating for me, but I do like the smaller "working" boats and pleasure craft. I'd like to do a nice Chris Craft boat, as they were built about 25 miles from where I live in Holland Mich. I also like the history of the working craft too.

Any suggestions for a Yacht?

I don't know if you were asking TB directly for thoughts, or if you were asling everyone in general, but I know that Revell of Germany has a 1/72 scale 108ft modern power yacht kit out now (I have one in my stash  ).

Hi,

I'd love to try my hand at a yacht.  But I've already got a few projects going now that I'd like to finsih 1st

I have the Glenco Corsair kit I would like to build someday.  I once built a Chris Craft Constellation.  Yachts are fun because there was a lot of brass, chrome, and finished wood work to fabricate but not to the extent of what an ocean liner would have.
