Has anyone built the Ironshipwrights 1/700 Edmund Fitzgerald? If so, how was it? I cant seem to find a review.

I built that kit- loved it. It is a fine kit.  I kind of specialize in Great Lakes freighters, mostly scratch built- doing that kit was a pleasure, it went together very easily.  I find I do not have a picture on my computer.   I will try to take one to post within a few days.

I was given it by a friend, and another member of the club who is a great resin caster did a wavy base with flat spot in middle matching ship's planform, adding to nice look of finished model.

Wow ,nice plaque. Thanks guys. Ive seen debates on what color to paint it. In its launching video, it appears to be a black hull. The photos I saw as a kid were the red hull and white decks. I believe I saw her with a gold colored hull once. I assume she wore many different colors.

Hi;

   I don't know about 1/700 but a funny thing happened to me on the way to the workshop . You all know I dabble in LEGO . Nuff said . I have found the perfect compination of parts to do a passable Lakes freighter in that venue .

 It came to me in the form of a Christmas gift !  The pieces create a nice Bilge curve and Bilge keel for a ship with a fairly flat bottom ! There are other pieces that allow for the bow curve all the way to the main deck .

 I personally am going to give the  "Eddie Fitz" a shot . In that scale which works out to 1/20 , Yes , it will be shorter than scale . My workshop ain't that big !

Finally got some photos today.  Found that some of the PE details and top of masts had been damaged in handling.  Someone else had been a bit rough with it. It will take awhile to fix, so I just decided to take pix as is.

Again, the water was not part of the kit, but it is a waterline kit, so you need to do a mounting surface of some sort.

Wow,Don, thats nice. Mine will be here in a few days. I didnt realize it was a waterline. I have never done one. Is yours translucent blue or just an awesome paint job?

The sea was cast resin, kind of tan color, so the paint job was some effort.  After the shades of blue and blue green (airbrushing), I applied several coats of a clear gloss polyurethane from a spray can.  Can't remember the brand, but they advertise it as a heavy/thick version.  Then, I applied a bit of acrylic gel medium to create bow and stern wake, brush painted white.

Ordinarily I put the waves down by brushing all the waves with the acrylic gel medium.  This was the first time I had a wavy sea to work with.  I did all the sea- er- lake painting before gluing the ship to the water.  The guy who made the water left a flat area the size of the ship.
