How good a model is Lindberg's Sea Witch?

That kit was originally manufactured by Marx in the late 1950s with a steel deck, along with the sister ship, the Swordfish.  It was then repackaged by Aurora with a plastic deck and hard plastic sails molded onto the yardarms, then by Lindberg with vacuformed sails.  As far as I remember, it matches the original ship very well, but with no planking or coppering detail.  I am looking for that kit.

The Spare Time Shop in Marlboro, MA has a copy of the Lindberg kit in stock....  has been there for a couple of years....

I have both of those kits in my stash by Marx and have built the newest version (Lindberg)several years ago.  I gave it to a friend. I recall it was a very nice kit, easy to build and nicely injected.

Personally I would love to build clippers to scale..one to another.  4555 ton Great Republic to 963 ton Cutty Sark.

Someday I will build both Marx kits for my clipper collection.

 Believe it or not I have one languishing in an open box in the Garage . What is missing is the  Metal Foredeck . Now that said . You will notice that she is a Square Stern " Yankee Clipper " Style . This is good in that except for wood models , she seems to be the only type out there in this configuration . . P.S. She came out about the time of John Wayne's movie " Wake of the Red Witch !"

I 4remember that scene in "Parenthood" where the Craig T. Nelson character and his son drive all the way up to Oregon to buy a part for the GTO he's restoring. Gets up there and they haggle, guy won't give him a good price so he goes home.

Their phone number is listed in every issue of FSM.  They advertise that they are the largest hobby shop in New England with over 10,000 kits in stock.  I did call yesterday and they are holding the kit for me.  I saw the same movie!

A bit late to the party, but I just got and built this kit because I found it for 50 bucks at Ollies.  It isn't a bad kit, but it doesn't have a ton of detail either.  The instructions are amaturish, but not too difficult to figure out.  The hull is completely smooth with no wood grain texture at all, but some layered painting and using a fan brush to create to texture, it is passable.  But for a mold from 1959, I suppose there is only so much you could honestly expect from it.  For 50 bucks it is a decent buy due to the size and impressive looking nature of it when completed.  But normal price, it wouldn't be a good investment in my opinion.

I've so many kits in my stash now I'm not sure what to do after the Huey I'm about to start but it'll most likely be one of my ship kits ... not sure which yet (no pun intended).
