I have started my 1:450 Revell Victory

The hull parts come in top and bottom as well as left or right.  This would eliminate having to mask to get different colors at waterline.  But, the panel lines on the lower half are not that great!  The lines are engraved way too deep to represent copper plate lines, are too regular, and absurd shape on stem and sternposts.  The molding on the top half, however, is quite nice, crisp and sharp.  Good detail.

I have never built a waterline model of a sailing ship, however, but I guess it is time to do one.  I intend to build it without sails bent, anchored.

I see what you mean by the copper plating , are you going to rescribe them ? . this should be good to watch , alway's been worried about doing a small scale ship , too fiddly for my big hand's .

Discovered a major problem yesterday.  The instructions call for inserting deck into one hull half and then gluing the two hull halves together.  I figured that would complicate painting, so I did what I always due- glue halves together and then insert deck.  Didn't realize deck includes four guns sticking through gunports on quarterdeck!  Hull sides are not flexible enough to get deck in easily.  Broke one of the guns and stopped.  The hulls are joined at a partial gun deck.  I am going to carefully cut the seam partway along, to make it easier to get deck in.

For anyone else building that kit, either follow the instructions, or else realize this problem and take some other action, like maybe cutting those guns from deck and replacing later.

I bought one of these kits out of curiosity and was very disappointed.  I then wrote to Revell that we modelers still would rather have larger and more serious kits. I gave the kit to my grandsons. Oh well . . .
