Saw this

Cool for seeing how much heel you can generate at speed (probably over 33kts).

Also cool for showing wake effects under a cloudy Alantic sky, too.

Yeah ;

 Did this on the Nimitz . First time I experienced this since Tin Cans . Awesome to see a BIG ship heel like this . My tankers  , in an emergency turn Port or Starboard ( Loaded ) would Bury the rail on the low side .

 Imagine seeing that for the first time . Also on the Big Bird farms you have ( in a straight line ) one big bow roll at the stem .

Did a high speed trials run aboard USS ESSEX CVS-9 in 1961 or so, after a yard period. She was about 20 years old then (I was just 19), having been commissioned in Dec 1942. With all 8 boilers cookin, we got her up to 33 knots. She was really shakin and rattling. I was on watch in forward auxillary machinery room on the evaporators and boy, were the deck plates rattling down there. Her nickname then was "The Oldest and the Boldest".

This is the sticker I have on the back window of my Ford Expedition.

Hmm ;

 What I liked about D.C was I could be anywhere .usually on the Midway as a sailor I was on the main control Flat .As a Marine on the same ship years later I was messing with anything that went " Boom " ! !!!   . She still shook like the Hounds  of Hades had a hold of her . 33.9 Knots . That was why . I loved all that class of Birdfarm !
