skylights
Posted by Don Stauffer on Monday, January 22, 2018 10:58 AM

I am working on my Lord Nelson, a late pre-dreadnaught battleship.  Did skylights ever have a cover like portholes, or was there just the glass there. The kit deck has just embossing of the outline of the glass panels. I am thinking of drilling out, filing out these panels and filling with microglaze.  I suppose it would be a bit easier to just mask and paint these panels gloss black, but I think the Micro Glaze might be a bit more realistic.  What do you guys think?

There would be covers, dogged down. Painted deck color.

More often, those and the glass ports would be open together for ventilation, or closed together for light control.

Im stalled on my Flower Class right now because there are 65 pieces of PE for ten lights.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Thanks, guys.  Turns out when I looked carefully at the bottom of the deck, it was not as recessed as I expected.  There is a slight recess, but the skylight is almost a solid hunk.  I could drill through it, but it would not be as nice is some others I have done.

On the other hand, I am not drilling out and glazing the portholes on this build anyway, so I guess covered skylights would be appropriate.
