Today was my monthly Antique store marathon . In the New Braunfels Antique Mall ( Downtown on the Corner of Castell and San Antonio Avenues )

 There I espied this . In it's original Box .the Scientific U.S.S. Constitution . The Small one . I did not ask the price because sometimes I get a sticker shock because of these folks thinking they have a really old valuable kit when they keep showing up at vendors tables at shows .

Also there was Two A.M.T. Aircraft models in the basement area .The 1/48 scale P-47 " Bubbletop " and the P-51 Mustang . These both had a price of twenty bucks . Both were sealed , But , I have learned to suspect this in antique stores.

Dont you just love trying to tell those people that their asking 2X what a kit is worth ?

I always get a blank stare ..... as I walk away.

I have actually shook a box at a swap meet and heard "Broken Glass" rattling around in the box. I told the vendor that I wanted the kit and I would pay his price, if I could view the kit first. He got mad and said " It's a collectable kit and if you unwrap it it looses it's value"

" But I'm going to buy it .... and for the price you are asking for ..... how can you loose ?"

He didnt want me opening that box..... and I walked away shouting "SHENANIGEN'S !!!

 Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

I didn't even know that Scientific made two different sized kits.  Is the one you are talking about their old wooden kit?  That was the second ship model I ever built.  I have a Scientific Revenue Cutter on my shelf of partially built kits awaiting more inspiration, found at a garage sale.  Also bought a few old wooden aircraft kits at antique stores.  Love to find that kind of stuff.  I have found garage sales and even antique stores asking far less than eBay!

Gentlemen,

Scientific made two different kits of the USS Constitution, a small one with a hull approximately 8" in length and a larger one of approximately 1/144 scale.  I had the larger one at one time but I couldn't really distinguish the period in the ship's history the kit was supposed to depict.  The spar deck guns were not carronades but cannons, yet there was no Hercules figurehead. Other details were more generic than factual, so I sold the kit.

Timmy ;

 Question . Why do you keep that large photo of the U-Boat in your posts ? Are you trying to say I should build one too ? LOL.
