1/350 scale brass propellers
Posted by crazyirishman on Thursday, March 22, 2018 5:18 AM

I recently purchased 2 1/350 scale ship models, Revell's USS New Jersey and Academy's 1/350 USS Indianapolis and I'm trying to find brass propellers for each. Anyone know if they exist and  where I can purchase them?

An aftermarket company called "G Factor" offered brass propellers for several ships in 1/350 scale.  They are often sold through eBay.

Another source for generic 1/350 scale brass propellers is a photoetch set made by Flagship Models: http://www.flagshipmodels.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=9

Hope this helps!

Large ships do not  typically use brass propellers- only small craft like speedboats.  Major ships used to use bronze- not the same as brass- but more recently mfgs going to steel.  This is an area where the kit mfgs get it wrong.  Do not follow their instructions calling for brass or gold color.

I do bronze by laying down a coat of copper, then a thin overcoat of brown. If I want it weathered, I do that with a wash of medium green.
