Watched a great video of carrier training on Lake Michigan last night on my PBS station. Turns out the movie is available on DVD. More in my post about it in the General Model Discussion forum.
We have been having some threads in the Tools forum about CNC tools like the Cricut vinyl cutter and Desktop Laser Etcher/cutters, and it looks like there is hope for scratchbuilding all those girders that would be needed to scratch one of those ships (I have some scale drawings from several sources).
