How do we get it back?
Posted by Don Stauffer on Friday, July 6, 2018 9:02 AM

How are we going to get our reply column back?  I find it so hard to read this forum without it.  I have posted in the problems forum, and have written FSM staff.  No acknowledgement, no change.  Yes, I know only certain browsers are affected, but those are popular browsers.  I am not going to change brower just to read one forum.  Though it is one of my favorites, I am sure I can find another ship forum somewhere else.

Don,

 Some updates for ya!

I went thru facebook .  My message and an almost immediate responce is below.

I went on FSM facebook page and gave them an update and a link to this thread.

"Several Ships Forum members are having issues with the ships forum reply column. Please see      http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/feedback_help_and_testing/f/39/t/179204.aspx.

Can you alert the WebMaster and see what he recommends as a "fix"?"

Thanks. Nino.

I just got back a reply:

"Yes absolutely. Thank you for letting us know."

Don,

Try and get a Screen capture  ( (PrtSc button) of the issue.

You can then paste this into a Doc or attach in an email.  FSM will need it.

I will send you an email with some screen captures in an attachment showing some differences between Chrome, IE and Firefox as regards quick reply as an example.

Nice to see that the admin folks here pay no mind to reporting problems on the forum on the site itself. Yet if the same thing is reported on Facebook, at least the report of the problem is acknowledged. Sounds kind of wrong...

Yes, Nice that the facebook page got a response.

I always figured that except for the Nannybot we were on our own to police ourselves.

Except for the very little yellow Triangle to report "abuse" there seems no direct way to complain.

The good news is this "complaint" stuff is few and far between.

Don,  I sent an email to your address listed in your profile.

I'd like to see a screen capture, too--as I'm not entirely sure what it is that I'm missing.  As I can't tell if I have a Reply column or not.

Things have changed here. One of the previous moderators was quite heavy handed and active in here. And personally I don’t mind the current hands off approach to daily conduct here.

But the Forum Feedback & Error Reporting does need to be monitored daily by staff during the work week and address or at least respond to any issues raised by forum members.

Don,

Thanks.  So that is what the issue is...  I missunderstood. This is much more likely to be an FSM "BUG".

I am in Va today and I am on my daughters computer and I have the same condition.  Other forums are okay. Ships are missing the column with Replies and Views # for each Thread/Topic. I admit I do not depend on this feature but it is a great way to see, at a glance, what has been going on. I will recheck my systems at home next week to see if this is universal on all my different OS's and versions (and a Mac). I bet it is and , as you suggested, It started after the aforementioned post.

Ah, thank you kindly.  Had not noticed.

I generally just look at the "posted nnn [time units] ago" rather than the views/replies information.

Whihc could just be adaptation to the (not conciously noticed) lack of info.  Or not.

Truth be told, ever since we "lost" the "go to last read" feature, I've kind of just assumed we have to cope with stone age page navigation.  Once you kludge, you kludge all the tiem.

Steve,

I had added that aspect (Page 2 okay) to the my facebook "send message" updates.

Note that the "send message" is not the same as a Facebook post which is visable to all.

I have had no other replies.  It is the FineScale Modeler Mag Facebook page, not direct communications to a Forum moderator or Web master.

It all started when Gene1 made this post:

Before that, everything was fine.

Good grief, give Gene a break! It was an accident and he took responsibility.

I've been on this forum a lot longer than my profile indicates, and I've seen it morph in major ways at least three times.

I really don't see this latest thing as anything that's a problem,

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Wasn't trying to bash Gene.  Sorry if it my post was interpretted as picking on anyone.  That was not my intent.

Just wondering if the moderators can remove it permanently from the stream so it goes back to "normal" for those of us with an issue.

For what it is worth, subsequent pages without the post display normally, as do all other pages I have visited on the site.

I have resigned myself to waiting for the post to fall to the second page and hoping everything goes back to normal.

Perhaps he can go back and edit his post. Change the title to a “normal” heading and the glitch will be cured by that action.

Just a thought.

Hi,

On other forums, where I have seen similar issues, I believe that did the trick.

I believe your idea on the issue is correct.

 See http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/7/t/179434.aspx

I updated it with my theory (Same as the above posts... Thanks.)
