So I found this at a storage unit clear-out sale....

Billing Boats Wooden Viking Ship kit.....

20180828_145107 by Dave Kump, on Flickr

I've accumulated a few wooden kits in the past few years, thinking someday I'd make the transition to building wooden kits.  Usually if I see one that's a decent price, and looks like a cool (and not too difficult!) subject, I'll pick it up.

I've heard good things about Billing Boats, and this one is complete (though really old)....anyway, it'll go into the stash for now.  Just thought I'd share, and see if anyone has built this or another Billing Boats kit, and if there are any thoughts?

Thanks!

Dave

I have had good luck with both garage sales and antique stores.  Last antique store find was an old balsa solid model B-47 kit. Store only wanted a few bucks- I think it was five.

Found several old ship kits in garage sales.  Seems to confirm what I have heard from hobby shop proprietors that most of the wood ship kits they sell never get finished.

Ditto with a Scientific Cutty Sark at a church thrift store.

Dave, that looks like a nice kit. They also go for good $$$ on line. It should be fun to build. Luck is that the original ship is in a museum, so you'll be able to find all sorts of detail photos, and/or go see it.
