USS CONSTITUTION cutaway vignette.
Amazing cutaway vignette created by the modeling artest, Rex Stewart of the USS CONSTITUTION in the heat of battle during the War of 1812. The yellow stripe was the hull configuration during that era, not the white stripe seen on the display ship today.
Here, minature marines are musket firing back at the enemy. All is missing is the smoke, noise and the sound of cannon fire.
The battle action continues as the marines keep a constant volley of gunfire. One marine,by the ship's boat, falls to the deck, perhaps mortally wounded by return fire by the enemy.
Below the main deck, the gun crew is busy at their post, adding cannon fire to the battle action.
Rex Stewart is a professional modeler, whose work has been displayed in other locations, such as the Mystic Seaport and the Woods Hole Ship Model Boat Show. He was one of the designers of the Dutch ship HALF MOON, now at Albany, New York. The CONSTITUTION cutaway vignette took ten months to create with 100 figures. It will be exhibited at the USS CONSTITUTION Museum, Boston, Massachusetts next year.
