Making a Cardstock Titanic

Found the kit at a thrift store for $3.99

Oh My!

 That looks like the Schreiber kit .If I am not mistaken.Or one of the Polish really good ones!But, looking carefully at the enlarged picture.I really don't recognize it.Perforated paper construction? What's the Brand name? Possibly Ribbet?

Installing deck fixtures.

To form the smokestacks,I rolled them around a 10 mm socket.

Starting to put the sides on.As per the instructions,I will glue it one section at a time.

This kit is strange...there is no bottom to the hull!Weird!

Installed the railing cranes and boats.

   That is kinda Weird. I think they Missed the boat on the instructions .Looks okay. You can make a bottom. Just stiffen the edges with thin poster stock and then glue a bottom shaped plate to it.

      I hope you will take what I say next in the right way. This isn't criticising your skills.The foredeck and after decks should be even with the top edge of the white in their area. These were raised above the cargo decks on the ship.  T.B.

I also wouldn't want you to take my maessage as criticism, I just think the kit, or the development of the Titanic you are working with is poor or maybe very poor.

Working with model kits (not only paper) it's worth to keep some things in mind:

-don't rush it take your time (that's kinda obvious)

-check for straightness often (especially true in case of paper models)

-check your references, kits are not the ultimate truth an can and should be corrected (that Titanic is the best example here)

If you like, there are many better paper model kits of the Titanic - Maly Modelarz, Fly Model, JSC and Szkutnik all make one. GPM makes a paper diorama of the sinking Titanic - I have to show you that:

Poor kit and inexpierence with paper kits got me on this one.count it as a learning expierence and hope to do better on tge next paper kit

I was considering burning it but my Daughter ,a big fan of the Cameron film with Leo and Kate ,expressed interest in it so it will go to her.

Cut a piece of poster board for the bottom with mounting tabs.

Got the bottom primered.

I was able to closely match the red .Used Tamiya X7 wirh some semi gloss black.
