Its Here.....Its Here.......

I am overjoyed. My eagerly awaited Revell VIIC U-Boat arrived today. Holy hausers....what a beast of a kit. Its huge.

I have it stored next to my unbuilt 1/72 Revell HMCS Snowberry. I may get creative and whip up a diorama for the two but given their scale, I may have to move to a new house. One problem with having two huge kits such as these....does anyone know if you can buy Testors Model Master paint by the quart can???(LOL)

I am located in Newfoundland, Canada and figured I would have to wait another month or two before I got the kit delivered even though I pre-ordered it 6 months ago from Great Hobbies. To make the best of it.......I only paid $59.99 CANADIAN and NOT $US.

As a footnote, I live in the seaside community of Portugal Cove in Conception Bay, Newfoundland where U-Boats U-518 and U-513 (both Type IXC) sank several ore carriers that were at anchor awaiting loading of raw iron ore from the Wabana Iron Mines for the war effort. The attacks occurred in September and November 1942 and my grandmother was an eyewitness to both attacks. Interestingly, one U-boat surfaced and the local militia managed to get a couple of shots off at the submarine with an artillery piece. Unfortunately, the gun emplacement was on the cliffs of Bell Island in the bay and they could not lower the gun sufficiently to shoot at the sub beneath them. They did however blow up a woodpile in St. Philip's (a community on the other side of the bay) and scare the wits out of several head of cattle that stampeded throughout the town. I know this doesn't have much to do with the VIIC but I can't help it.....too excited.

Can't wait to watch the posts as modellers everywhere begin to build this behemoth.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL.......

Mine arrived yesterday, via UPS from Great Models. Unlike some other folks, mine arrived in perfect condition, no bends or breaks in the hull halves, and the box was in surprisingly good condition, given the size of it. I can't wait to get started on this model.

I just received my kit of Revell Germany's 1/72nd scale u-boat this week. VERY impressed with this kit. Revell seemed to do an excellent job with molding the hull. I haven't had a chance to look at the rest of the kit yet. I have looked at the assembly booklet, and although it's easy to understand, I feel Revell could have done a better job on the booklet. Once built, it is the type of kit one can be proud to display.
I'm also interested in hearing from other builders of this kit if they have any modeling tips or suggestions for building this u-boat. There is a web site called nautilus models that is supposed to have a conversion kit for this model out by the end of May. They don't specify what's in the kit, but hopfully it will only increase the realism of an already realistic model. Looking forward to seeing this kit! Happy modeling!!!

I plan on opening the conning tower hatch on mine.
All I need is a 1/72 scale ladder!!??. Any suggestion on where I could find one? That is probably the only thing that can be seen.
My das boot arrived from Squadron in perfect condition.

since the ladders were narrow, I wonder if an HO scale ladder would fit the bill for you.
I know it's a smaller scale, but you might be able to find a building ladder that you could use.
