Rather Large Scratch Built Ships
Posted by 1943Mike on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 12:11 AM

Just thought I'd post a link to the opposite side of the ship modeling scale after having viewed Joseph Lavender's magnificent miniature model ships.

I eventually want to build the 1/350 Lusitania kit that I have in my stash and, while looking around YouTube, came across these models of the Titanic, Lusitania, and Normandie. I may have seen them (or at least one of them) when I was living in southern California and visited the Queen Mary - I really don't recall .. it was a long time ago.

These are 1/48 scale with cutaways on one side. The were built by Father Roberto Pirrone starting when he was 15 years old.

I hope they're of some intereest to some of you.

I’ve seen his work in person too and it’s fantastic. I’ve done a fair bit of card modeling in 1/250 myself and I know what’s possible, but this is masterclass!

That's superb and I very much appreciate the Padre's attitude.

4000 hours, the show off. I think I spend a large fraction of that on a 1/72 fighter jet.

But that is 2 years of normal work hours. Of course, when you are 15 years old and not chasing girls...

Thank you for finding that video.
