I currently have three 1/350 scale Battleships to work on and I was wondering what you good folks here were using to form what amounts to the vinyl (or cloth) boots on the big guns where they project out of the turret body? I was thinking maybe some extremely thin rubber sheeting or even a white plastic grocery bag might work. What has worked for you over the years?
Daubs of white/PVA glue. At one time I had some 'Puff Paint' for fabrics from the craft store. It might work on larger scales, but in 350 and smaller it puffed up too much
That's an interesting idea. I do want to keep the barrels moveable - so I'm thinking putting a few thin daubs of the pva onto something like wax paper, let them dry into a film, and then peel them up and press the barrels through it as I'm mounting them in the turret?
I have seen a guy , use toilet paper with white glue , was quite effective

Tissue and white glue/water has been a hobby go to for simulating canvas, etc. for many years. Can be fiddly to get right, but looks excellent when it is. Easily painted when dry, as well.
Yes but it won't be movable.
Honestly, I don't see how it can be and still look right.
Putty is another way.
