Adding white makes a red paint go toward  pink.  Add a neutral gray instead

Oh i didn't realize this, I'm used to doing shadow coats, thank you!

I hauled out the Vallejo modern nuclear submarine paint set.  The included Model Air 71.084 Fire Red does compare favorably with AK5026. It may be a hair redder than the AK

worse case scenario I could always lighten it a bit with some white paint. Thank you all for this information. I was Almost about to but volume for the sole purpose of the hull red but I think i may go with the Vallejo hull red instead feom The nuclear sub set.

That is extremely useful info there. I am going to bookmark it for future reference.

Right, I didn't mean to suggest the OP could get the AK red by itself. I leave it to others to do their own homework.

I'm looking at the shipyard right now. A lot of projects to complete.

I buy most all of the paints I use from Scalehobbyist.com. They are located in New Hampshire.

I think they are a great site with quick, reasonable service. Highly recommended.

A search of their site doesn't seem to turn up individual AK5026 Hull Red.   They do have washes & weathering items by AK.     For that matter, AK5026 doesn't seem to turn up as an individual item for sale at most of the US-based online retailers.    Amazon lists several other manufacturers of Hull Red,  nothing particularly AK Interactive.    It looks as you may be able to order it directly from BNA Modelworld in Oz, or direct from AK in Spain.

A couple other options;   Mission Models appears to have a good alternative for Norfolk 65 Hull Red.   Its an enamel with proprietary add-ins.

Vallejo's Hull Red (Primer) appears to be too brown for USN paractices.

Tru-Color out of Arizona has a good match for Norfolk 65.   Tru-color is a solvent-based enamel.   Their solvent smells of acetone.    It does spray well   http://trucolorpaint.com/

Scale Colors out of Wisconsin makes an acrylic Norfolk 65 hull red.

It airbrushes well.    Scale Colors is run by Jeff Herne, former FSM editor and one of the original members of the naval color mafia

For this particular model, there's a LOT of red.

Oh, and Olive Drab and Neutral Gray!

was kind of tracking the olive drab for the bombers, I always get weird about the reds because there is the German hull red and the American one

Trumpeter kit?

Gator makes a great mask set for this which is pretty much indispensable. I think it was pretty reasonable and it's worked for me.

http://www.gatorsmask.com/cv.html

Here are the colors, plus red.

20-B Deck Blue

5-S Sea Blue

5-O Ocean Gray

5-H Haze Gray

https://www.shipcamouflage.com/ships2_9_41_plate_12.htm

You'll want the first set.

Volume 2 is not useful here.

Sorry for the lack of Information in the kit, yes it is the trumpeter 1/350 Hornet kit. I was going towards volume 2 because it had the hull red and the black but if i can get those on there own then I'll be fine with that.

I'm beginning to collect paint for my upcoming 1/350 USS Hornet Doolittle raid Build. I've been studying the AK Interactive paints and believe Volume 2 of the set would work but i have a nagging feeling I could use some paints from volume 1. Im not confident enoguh to say i can use just volume 2 so i need some guidance Please.
