Artwox Wood Decks-Couple of Questions

I am not familiar with Artwox decks but the Scale Decks I used were sprayed with Testors Dull Coat (why would you want shiny and thus slippery decks on a ship?

I used Gorilla Glue to fasten the Scale Decks down. It allows you time to position the deck.

Stain before install, but DON'T use anything water based. Stick to spirit based or enamels.

Test fit the thing and enlarge holes if needed. Never rely on the adhsive to hold it down; treat it as though it would lie flat on it's own.

Stain ?? Do you mean only if I need to change the color of the deck,I mean the color looks okay to me ?

Could you clarify that second statement not understanding it.

I'm useing an Artwox deck for the first time on my S-100. I have only added a couple of pieces so far but they have stuck down well without any extra glue.

I never thought about staining those bits, will have to do that for the reast.

I use a Cabot stain called "Driftwood". It just makes the deck a little gray, it looks slightly weathered.

Wood decks expand and contract, and easily buckle. Often the fit to the plastic kit is good in some places and not so much in others. I've found the problem areas tend to be between objects, like two adjacent turret bases. It's not workable to force down the deck in the space and count on the adhesive to hold. 

If possible, lay the deck down without pressing on it and check the fit. It should be a little bit loose. If not trim the openings in places that aren't too obvious unti it drops on without pressue.

     My experience with Artwox was good. Fit has been acceptable and as GM says, make sure it drops in place without binding.  On one model, the IJN Yamashiro, the deck was a bit short (.2mm?) on the stbd side at just 1 point.  After a few years I noticed one small edge of the port side was lifting up.  I attribute that to too much humidity in the house and my fingers contact with the adhesive during application.  I glued the edge back down with some brand X glue-everything stuff. The deck is holding firm so far.       I also bought a de-humidifier.

 Summary:  The self-stick deck worked for me.  One important point... decks with too much wood surface detail , like raised lines, need some scraping to make them flat for the best contact.

Here are the first two pieces I did.It is for Trumpeters 1/350 Graf Spee,I like the color,just going to use a flat non acrylic clear to seal it.It went on pretty easy and I like the look.
