Great Eastern instructions?
Posted by Voyager1914 on Friday, July 3, 2020 8:44 AM

Hi...I've been a "reader" of the Ships Forum for years and would like to begin by thanking everyone for great discussions. This is my first time posting a question. I have the Entex (Revell) Great Eastern in my stash but without instructions. Might anyone have a scanned copy of the instructions from either Entex or Revell? More importantly, stay safe given Covid-19.

Voyager,

I‘m sorry, I couldn’t find anything on my usual go to sites on the net. I hope you find the instructions. I’m jealous you even have a Great Eastern model! It’s one of those kits I’ve had on my “I SO need this kit” list.

Like Steve, I turned up nothing.

Which may reflect that RoG has not reissued this kit recently (which may reflect the age of the Entex moulds, and their having bounced around the industry a bit).

A bit drastic, but I did find this:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Revell-Great-Eastern-Steam-Ship-Model-BOX-ONLY-Includes-Instructions/274420184990?hash=item3fe4b7b79e:g:9cIAAOSwD45fA4q1

$31 for instructions would be steep unless you could flog the box alone.

Write the seller and offer them $ 5 for a scan.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I'd sure pay 31 bucks for the kit and a copy of the instructions!

Many thanks for the responses! My stash has been accumulating for more than 40 years, and if I recall correctly, I found the Entex Great Eastern without instructions some years ago in the vendors' section of a local model show. I retired about three years ago and have decided that the Great Eastern will be the next project, after I finish the Airfix Endeavour, detailed to some degree with the Endeavour AOS also in front of me on the workbench. There are a lot of photos and illustrations of the Great Eastern online, and figuring out what goes where for the model, which is in its cable layer configuration, can be a fun search.

didn't Airfix make a kit of the Eastern?  I remember having one way back when, but I thought it was a Airfix kit.

Good afternoon

Long time reader, just joined to say that I have this kit (bought in the early 80s). Just checked the kit to be sure, I have a set of instructions, I can scan them next time that I am in the office.

No kit on that one, just a crushed, empty box--but with original artwork.

A long link as you say, but really great complete information. I'm amazed that you were able to track this down. Although I'm glad to have the Entex boxing, the Revell box art is great. I remember it from the original Revell issue many years ago, which I saw in my LHS but did not purchase. Many thanks for the link. Now I just have to get around to building the model.

I am taking an online course in History of Technology.  Today's lecture covered the Great Eastern.  Now I have a real desire to build one!

I could see that. Mr. Steam power...
