Oldy, But Goody

Hi;

      Hey, you modern shipbuilders. How many of you have done the " Shell Welder" Coastal Tanker? I am in the process of doing the one that was done in Russia!. Oy, the molding WAS terrible! I wonder how old these molds actually are. I remember I think,the first time I did this ship it was by IMC. whoever that was!

    Anyway after dealing with the Revell style building steps, I finally got the Bulkheads looking like they were done as one piece items. The deck Planks( yes it has a wooden deck!) were very disturbing in that they were raised lines between the planks. Not now though. I didn't have .020 plank sheet in the stash.

    Now, that said, I found out the Etched Brass rails have a bottom edge that will help hide the height of the .040 I had to use. The Lifeboats are next. I am going to sand the tops off and put in a strongback and use tissue soaked in white glue to make canvas looking ones.The plastic representations are terrible! Now, that also comes to the final push. The Davits will be rigged with a bunch of blocks from Bluejacket that someone sent me years ago. Then the beautiful Port Hole brass gets put in the Hull and the Deckhouse. More later> I will try to get some photos, No Promises though !

Did it many years ago.  Heavy weathering.  Was looking at it recently- terrible base.  I thought I would remount it on a good base, and do even more weathering and some mods while I was at it.  What etched railings are you using?

Hold On,Don;

        I'll go and check, My Laptop is not in my work area. The set,which is very nice by the way, is by Atlantic Models /1Hilview Grove, County Durham,SR8 3NT . It's PETER HALL'S Work. It's listed on the envelope as for the FROG/NOVO/Chematic Kit.

       Based on the Address, I'd say England. Remember, Don, This kit was bought from another Modeler two years ago !

I can definitely confirm that County Durham is in England (just 10 miles or so down the road from me!), the postcode identifies the exact location as Easington Colliery, which is a village in said county.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?
