Scaledecks wooden deck question

Ahhh, the USPS!

Fed EX, UPS, seem to do a better job. Haven't tried Amazon yet. 

My Shipyard 1/72 card stock HMS Alert is coming USPS, I hope it gets here in one piece!

I had no problem with Gorilla glue. On the Comstitution, with the gun deck Scale Decked, it raised the deck just enough that the bulkheads for the Captains quarters had to be be filed down. That was just one deck. I adjusted the gun barrels down using the trunions, and that worked well.

On a multi deck each deck would be affected. The Scale Decks are about 1 mm thick. Doesn't seem like much but on a scale model it can cause extra work.

I laid down the Gorilla glue, used clamps to hold it and let it sit for two days.

On the Minicraft 1/350 Titanic, there was the same problem with the multiple decks.

If the deck fit is a problem a little sanding and filing should do the trick.

So for example if the wood has a cut out for a deck house. When you go to add detail parts like ships ladders to it, you need to adjust for misalignment.

ahhh, got it.  Didnt know what "they" were referring to....  Decks.  So, this is so thin its hard to believe its wood.   Bad angle but less tham 1mm thick

If I may respond to the question.

By adding a layer, items added onto it will sit higher than intended.

The classic case is mounting cannons on a sailing ship. An added wood deck raises the barrels where they pass through the gun ports.

Be sure that your wood deck can lie flat without glue. You can't depend on the glue by forcing down any kinks or tight fits with the deck.

At least they are rolled up. i bought a bunch of K+S brass rod recently. They were packed in a long thin cardboard tube.

For some reason the USPS decided to bend the tube about 30 degrees in the middle.

Yikes!  Well your not alone. Sorry....  My mail for awhile now has been so beat up and mangled that I e signed up for informed delivery so that at least I get a picture of it before delivery. That way, if I have to file a claim, at least I may have a picture of it in good shape. . Comes to my email every day. Kind of an unbelievable service to me actually.  I can't believe they waste the time and money on it considering how much the USPS has been loosing over the years.

They do raise the planking so watch for fit on upper decks as that could be affected a little. 

They come rolled in the tube as it is sturdier packing and offers better protection. Before you begin to mess with them, untube them and lay them flat with books or something to flatten them out, and leave them overnight. They really dress a build up.

For shipping I'm sure. It's kinda big and I'm guessing easier to roll it up in the packaging to fit in a narrow box as opposed to shipping in a long package. It was rolled to about the circumference of 1.5 the size of paper towel tube. 

So it gets packaged flat but then rolled up to be shipped? Kind of odd.

Having a king plank, joggling and nibbing around the edge and a waterway plank is really nice and something very hard to do on hand laid planking.

Yes that's the way all mine have come. The way he designs them is to fit under some things on the decks as opposed to cutting around them so I guess that's why he keeps them thin. Also beware the planking is printed on the wood with ink so if you get any liquid on them they will smudge. 

I think he states that you should clear coat them to avoid that issue but if you do VERY light coats or it will mess up the ink...and only spray on the clear, no brushing. I install them without coating but am very careful not to get anything on them. Hope this helps.
