Completed: 1/144 scale USS Guadalcanal (CVE-60)
Posted by rcboater on Sunday, January 24, 2021 9:07 PM

Finished this in October, 2020:  1/144 scale USS Guadalcanal, CVE-60, as she appeared in June ‘44 when U-505 was captured. Hull is mostly balsa, with a layer of fiberglass. Hangar and flightdeck are foam core board and lots of styrene.  Gun mounts are 3-D printed.  Aircraft are a mix of plastic kits:  Minicraft and F-Toys Avegers and Sweet FM-2 Wildcats

Radar antenna and forward elevator are motorized.

Sweet. Nice build.

That's really impressive. If I'm calculating this correctly, she's about 42 inches long.

I'm looking at my Bogue model, which is about 8 inches long.

Nicely built. I like the radar as well.

Thanks, guys!

Model is 42" LOA.  I really enjoyed all the scratchbuilding- used a lot of Evergreen sheet and strip.

One more photo:  Taken on "Sea trials" the month before- caught a gust on the port beam.  Prototypical!

Apparently that's a good scale to use, as that's what the Norfolk Navy Musem's diorama seems to be in.

No one can say you don't build to specifications.

Nicely done.
