After my post, I looked online for the Dragon kit and was surprized to find one for sale on ebay!  I bid it up to $100 and lost, the wining bid was over $154!!!

I wish I could find that Dragon kit, if you or anyone viewing this post has a kit or knows where I could get one, you could be my hero

Other paint options:

Enamel: Sovereign Models Colourcoats makes modern USN Haze Gray and Deck Gray, matched to the spec.  Available in the US from Toms Modelworks.  

Acrylic: Scale Colors makes acrylic modern Haze Gray and Deck Gray in a squeeze bottle similar to the standard Vallejo dropper bottle.  See ScaleColors.com

Both Toms Modelworks (Richard Harden) and Scale Colors (Jeff Herne) will be at the IPMS Nats   You may have to wait until after to have an order filled

And....as the Cap'n often points out, there's also "scale effect", which means smaller objects should be a lightened version of whatever the actual color (Har!) may have been.

Tamiya's Haze Gray is much more like the wartime color.

You might want the XF 20 from Tamiya, instead.

The Federal Standard number is FS 26270, in Model Master that's laeled "Neutral Gray."

Note that USN decks are dark--in Modelmaster, Gunship Gray is a go-to (flight deck surfaces are darker still, near NATO Black when new).

I had painted the resin one tamiya haze gray but to me it was too dark. I remeber being on different ships as a youngun and my memory was that they were much lighter. I've put the resin one aside till I'm no longer mad at it lol

Wouldn't she be Haze Gray? Not the WW2 color 5-H, but post war Haze Gray.

What's going to happen to the resin model?
