What's so tone deaf about a display of ships laid out on an IJN Flag?
I wouldn't say tone deaf I would say historical display.
Just my
Techinally, a 48-star flag is Disestablished and is no longer a "legitimate" US Flag covered by the Flag Code.
It's a bit tone deaf as a display. Similar to putting a bunch of IJN ships on a Naval Rising Sun Flag.
Any of a number of signal flags would have been far more appropraite. Say, this one (Squad):
or (Flot):
Best might have been (SecNav) though:
I'm likely biased i nthis
"My guess would lean towards an honest mistake and lack of understanding of flag etiquette. I want to believe it was actually meant as a patriotic gesture."
This is my thought also. I believe this person is very proud of our great country. He just needs to be brought up to speed on displaying the flag.
Silly_me Could have been worse, they could've been IJN :)
Could have been worse, they could've been IJN :)
Or the DKM !!!!
Need to give him the benefit of the doubt he obviously tried to make a patriotic display for his American Navy sea power display.
If he's guilty of anything,it's probably unintentional,a polite but firm corrections probably all thst was needed.
Scale modelers (of all countries) seem to be a patriotic bunch. My guess would lean towards an honest mistake and lack of understanding of flag etiquette. I want to believe it was actually meant as a patriotic gesture.
And I was thinking the same as Crackers earlier, this isn't the same as the blatent, intentional abuse of the flag we see in the media almost daily.
Having never served myself, I think I can empathize with those of you who did who are angered by it, though.
Just my opinion.
People have done alot worse to the flag, like spitting, trampling and burning the flag. Frankly, I see nothing insulting about this display. I think it is rather a patricotic theme.
Happy modeling Crackers

I hope this was not someone on this forum doing this to the flag.
