Hey TJS did my friend request with my email come through? I can't pm you on here so tried sending it that way. Chris
In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!
LOL! Sound advice which I will follow. Thanks again!

MR TOM SCHRY ... Unfortunately, the son doesn't have a lot of information to give me and his father has passed away.

Don't go too far down the Advanced Modeler's Syndrome rabbit hole on this one. The son and grandson will be thrilled with whatever you build for them, and it'll make them feel closer to him. Trying to get everything exactly right will make the build a lot less fun for you.
My Dad served in the Merchant Marine in WWII, so when I got back into modeling I was all about building HIS specific Victory ships. So I had questions. A lot of questions. Endless questions. Finally one day, when I was quizzing him for the umpteenth time about hatch cover colors, he exploded, "Christ, son, that was 70 years ago! It was a ship! It was grey!"
Ha! Too funny. I wrote it meaning I mostly build aircraft...works for both interpretations though as i do alot of 1/32 stuff
Mongoose, When you say that you're a "big aircraft modeler" does that mean you really like building aircraft or does that mean big like 1/32 or 1/24 scale?
Yep, the perfect build, happy to send it your way For a tribute to a Vet. And hey it just happens to be Veterans Day! I have been building ships lately myself but also a big aircraft builder primarily. Pick something out and surprise me I'll pm you my address. Glad I could help you out.
Chris
That's the kit Mongoose! I've built several Lindberg ship kits already so I know what I'm dealing with them. I sure do appreciate it and I'd like to suggest a trade for it. What type of modeling do you do? Aircraft, armor, ships, autos, and some Sci-Fi. I've accumulated quite a large stash, so I should have something to trade with you. Thanks again Mongoose. I'm sure that his son and grandson will appreciate it. Should we exchange emails to work out the details?
Tom, here's what I've got, it's the 1/125 version so decent sized, says "over 12" long"...but most likely typical Lindberg inside lol
still sealed. Yours if you would like to build it.
edit- checked Scalemates and it's the 2000 release
Mongoose, That would be great and very kind of you. If you do have it, I'd like to offer a trade for it. Please let me know if you locate it. Thanks again!
I may have that Lindburg kit. If I do do you want it? I'll just send it to you.
will check when i get home from business trip tomorrow

Thanks! I'll try to find out the first name from either the son or grandson.
Wow! Thank you Ed for the great information on LCTs. Unfortunately, the son doesn't have a lot of information to give me and his father has passed away. I know that the Lindberg kit is very basic and difficult to find. Presently, I have Revell's LSM kit so I guess I'm in a holding pattern until I get more information. Once again, thank you.
What Type of LCT?
LCT Mk1 through Mk4 were Royal Navy variants
LCT Mk5 served both the RN and USN. It is notable that the bridge house is centered across the stern above the well deck. Used largely in the European theatre. The Lindberg 1:125 kit is a Mk5, but be prepared to enter the aftermarket for detail items.
LCT Mk6 were largely in the USN. Notable that the bridge is raised on the starboard side. Used in both the European and Pacific theaters.
LCT Mk7 was also known as a Landing Ship Medium (LSM). Revell makes a couple of LSMs in 1:144 scale.
LCT Mk8 became known as Landing Craft Utility (LCU.
If 1:350 is too small for you, you can always go smaller to 1:700 scale. Loose Cannon made some Mk6 in resin & brass.
Before you poo-poo off 1:350 scale, Black Cat Models of France makes some very nice resin Mk5 and Mk6 variants. The masters were 3D printed. Very finely done, more detail, and more petite than the AFV Club offering. They come with either M4 Shermans or M7 Priests which are kits unto themselves.
find 1 made by Lindberg. http://www.modelerjoe.net/shipmodellist.html#LindLCT
Hi Everyone,
Took my van in yesterday for service work and noticed that the owner had one of those triangular flag cases and a WWII veteran hat on a shelf. We talked and the owner's father served in the navy in WWII and was on a L.C.T. in the Battle of Saipan. Are there any decent kits of a L.C.T. out there. I found that AFV Club makes a set of two in 1/350 scale but that seems pretty small. One of the greatest pleasures in this hobby is to build something for a veteran or their family to thank them for their service.
