From memory 1880s, near Sino-French war and SpanAm war era.

She's either Armstrong (UK) or German built (could be wrong about that). 

Much argument about whether a "protected cruiser" or a "battleship" or a "coastal monitor"--but those terms and definitions were in high flux at the time.

From memory, the ship has a ton of wood decksand every kind of gun and mount, which makes for a visually appealing model just filled with "stuff" (if a pain to mask)  Wood & steel masts and yards, too.  Shrouds but no ratlines.

A quick 'Wiki-check' says Armstrong, around 1886, and about half the size of USS Olympia C-6, so I'm thinking Protected Cruiser works.

She was a British Elswick Class Cruiser built for China. She wash built in about 1888 and sank during the chino-Japan Wars in 1904.

Yes, nomenclature was very changing, and frequently different by country.  The stuff and spars, and the variation of guns and propulsion are what fascinates me about that period.

Nice subject should be a fun build and an attractive model. The more I build warships, the more I'm liking pre WW2 subjects and lately the pre-dreadnought era.

This was always one of my favorite pre- pre-Dreadnought designs. I built a largish-scale import kit of her years ago...forget the mfg...but it was rather toy-like and unsatisfying. Nice to see there's what looks to be a nicer version out there.

Will follow your build with much interest.

I built the other kit they did, the Chen Yuen battleship, Stettin-built.

It had acres of wood deck, probably one of two or three times I've used wood AM decks.

Very nicely made kit, and great looking.

Found the kit on Amazon, got it already.  Beautiful kit.  Was a little wary at first- what is an armor kit mfg doing bringing out a ship kit.  Quick look through the box settled my fears.  Crisp molding and detail, includes PE, and instructions are great!  I hope I can get a good buff paint these days.

Mate, It looks like you nailed it! She's looking great! I just Started revell's "Olympia" Model. Fascinating indeed, this period in ships.

Looking really great.

She does look dressed up for service.

One of these Bronco models is a museum ship, I don't remember which one but it's not hard to find online. The restoration is kind of cheesy, like a movie set, but informative.

The one I built, the Stettin-built battleship; had Gatling guns in the tops. I scratched them complete with little cranks.

Think you got it, mate.

That is a color I have not seen before. I've also never seen a camel that color...looks way too brown to me.

Reviews suggest that like all yellow paint it only goes true color over white,

For any light Colour like a Yellow, I always basecoat with White to emphasise the Colour.....Cheers mark

Ok her Fitout commences. Most of her Foredeck is now done and a start has been made on her open Bridge. The A/M Wooden details make a huga amount of differences. Tolerances are pretty tight on the Kit so thin Coats are the way to go. More to come soon.....Cheers mark

Have completed the Bridge Area and the Anchor Guard Sheets on the Bow. IF you are building this KIt the Bridge Guard Rails are a nightmare. There are about 8 Sections of Rail that must be laid correctly then the Top Rail is then added to it. You need to be bang on with your Staunchin cutting from the Sprue to make sure you do not cut too much off or you will have problems. Am lucky that it worked out pretty well but takes your time measure twice and cut once.....Cheers mark
