Is there a 1/350 scale Atlanta class light cruiser?
Posted by ps1scw on Friday, April 15, 2022 12:36 PM

I've seen a couple of 1/700 scale Atlanta class ships, but I was unable to find a 1/350 version.  Has anyone seen anything from Trumpeter, Dragon etc. ?

Yankee Modelworks, Iron Shipwright, and Blue Water Navy made kits in 1/350 resin. But not sure easy it is to find one.

I wish Dragon would release some of their distroyers or sell the molds, the CL's are all resin

VeryFire is coming out with one.  Regular and Deluxe...I believe the Deluxe is a Pontos upgrade.  When it comes to PE I'm more of a railings / radars type of guy...actually grills on a Panther rear deck...

Squadron will offer it, too:

They just sent out an email within in the past week about the VeryFire kit.

How do you like it?  I have not seen any build reviews as of yet.

It's a really nice kit.

In-box review here.

One noticeable kit error: Very Fire included the wrong turrets but that's an easy fix.  Several aftermarket vendors offer 5"/38 cal. Mk.28 mounts which are identically shaped to those carried by Atlanta and other early Atlanta-class ships and that's what should have been included.

Very Fire included Mk.32 mounts, a later lightweight version which has a slightly different shape.  This is an easy mistake for a vendor to make.  Very Fire used the same 5" mount fret as found in their excellent Cleveland-class kits.

Mk.32 mounts were fit to the Oakland-class, which are a later derivative of the Atlantas, and other US Navy cruisers, reconstructed pre-war battleships, and Essex-class aircraft carriers, etc..

The Very Fire 1/350 scale Cleveland and Birmingham cruisers are also really nice kits and highly recommended.

That's good news for me, I want to build a 1/350 USS Boise CL47, the Cleveland hull is close, according to Wikipedia

I have the Atlanta, and I now want the Cleveland. Cruisers are awesome.
