I believe, I posted somewhere about being Gifted a Tamiya 1/350 Missouri, And that I was left speechless! I have to say after opening the box I was again left Speechless! Sure, we are talking Tamiya here, Ya know, Shake the box well, let sit for thirty minutes, open box to find finely completed model inside, Yeah Sure (Shake and Bake).
Started it yesterday. Was very pleased with the instructions and the fidelity of the parts. Did find some areas to clean up and those were all minor. Some edges and stuff like that. I compared the look of some parts to old black and white photos I have of the "Mo" in Bremerton. Washington State.(Mothballs) and some given me by my Step Grandfather who served on the various Cruisers escorting her!
I think I have found this to be true. I have Trumpeter's 1/350 U.S.S. North Carolina. These to kits are head to head leagues above the offerings of say, REVELL and some others. The detail is incredible for something so small. That and the Deck Planking(A unecessary detail, really!) is there, but very light and once painted properly, hard to see any INDIVIDUAL planks.
This along with a now seemingly industry wide leaning for accuracy is being done with the same attention that you even have a minimum of two to four parts for the Twenties, and Forties on board. Gee, Mikey, they aren't lumps anymore!, Unless they are the old Re-Pops we see everywhere.
I am going to go very slow and I will definitely use the included EDUARD P.E. set made for this ship, and her more recent sibling. The one I have I understand is the first issue in this Scale. TIP. When Doing the Eduard Radar Dish, Don't forget to use a marble above and craft foam under the radar to shape it. Gee, I really love their ship products.
Oh, for the Rivet counters out there. Beware, there are some old INCA Stairways on this kit! As the Daleks from Dr.Who, would say, "EXTREMINATE, EXTERMINATE". Other than than that, I think it will be a satisfying build in HAZE GREY, etc. I won't do Camo. I don't like it . I have built Wood and Plastic, R.C.models and done this type of pattern. I just don't like it. It makes the "Little Ships" Look much littler!
