So as noted, you have several choices. This is a link to a page on heavy cruisers that is part of a larger database. Get to know your way around that database if you are interested.

https://www.shipcamouflage.com/usn_ca.htm

1942 1943- the ship is 5-N Navy Blue overall. A big dark blue ship. She was beaten up pretty badly at Guadalcanal in Nov. 1942 and was repaired into early 1943. She came out of that refit still painted Measure 21 (5-N).

1944- the ship is a camouflage pattern of 5-L Light Gray and 5-O Ocean Gray (Measure 33). Decks are 5-O and 20-B Deck Blue which is pretty close to 5-N. This is hard to do.

1944 1945- the ship is 5-N from waterline to lowest point of the main deck and 5-H Haze Gray (WW2 version) above that point (Measure 22). Decks are 20-B. On this particular ship and others of her class, this is a little odd because she does not have a flush main deck- the front half of the ship is a deck higher than the rear half. The demarcation of colors is matched to the rear.

These colors are hard to find now in enamels, and Tamiya doesn't sell them. I use AK interactive, which sells sets of most if not all of these.

Good luck, it's a good model.

Her bridge is installed out at Lands End in San Francisco.

I get out there every couple of years. It's a pretty solemn spot.

Do a Google Image search on San Francisco CA-38.  There are some good color drawings of it there, plus lots of detail photos.
