Another dark gray is Tamiya Nato Black. Not saying its close to 5D.

A story on Pearl Harbor colors ...

a dozen+ years ago at a friends hobby shop there was a patron who had been  on the Maryland on 7 December.  He was asked what color the Maryland, Arizona, and others were.   He walked over to the ModelMaster rack and picked up a bottle of Aircraft Interior Black.

THe suggestions above should render a dark-enough color.

Remember that the upperworks are a very pale gray, and not white.  The contrast will look white or near-white but that scales poorly, typically.

You will probably want some pure white for the turret tops, the better to render the red paint upon them.

You will want some "range" in the dark gray, too, the better to pick out details, gun mounts and the like.  Dark colors are a bear to model without becoming monotonous.

Some matches I think work-

PMS Cool Gray 11C

Testors Dark Gunship Gray. That's what I use for USN post war aircraft carrier decks.

Navy Paint Measure 1 5D (faded)

Hello shipmates, I would like to paint my PRE Dec 7 Arizona in Measure 1 5D.  I see the fresh out of the can 5D is nearly black.  I understand that the real stuff faded quickly.  Would say Tamiya German Panzer Grey dunklegrau be a good representation of faded 5D?
