Model Shipways Harriet Lane

Very nicely done. I like how the decks and rigging turned out.

And I like your take on a case for your models! I put each one of my in either an Imex or Trumpeter plastic case because we have cats ... and I don't need to say any more than that.

Big Harriet Lane fan here!  I am a "plank owner" of the current USCGC Harriet Lane.

I have both kits in my stash.   I have the original Pyro kit, which came molded in three colors-  medium brown, black, and dark green (hull).

I also have the old Model Shipways kit, in the yellow box, from the days before Model Expo took them over and upgraded the kit.   It came with a bunch of cast lead fittings, many of which have corroded away to lead dust.

My current thoughts are to combine the two kits-use the best of each.  I plan to use the Pyro hull and then use the wood parts for the masts and spars.

I have that kit in my cue.  A club member gave it to me after finding he didn't like working with wood.

This thread has caused me to move the kit up in the queue.  Love the period of transition from sail to steam.

Yes,  the Lindberg kit is from the old Pyro Plastics molds.  The Pyro kit was a copy of the MS wood kit, but in plastic. If you search this forum for older Harriet Lane threads, you'll surely find comments fron the late Dr. John Tilley, who quoted the founders of Model Shipways as referring to "Pyro" as "Pirate Plastics" for the copying of the wood kits.

I have both kits  in the stash.  Both are 1/144 scale, and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Stunning work ER!  So glad that it's protected from dust and curious fingers.  Is that the same ship that the old Lindberg Blockade Runner is supposed to represent?

Nice looking model. I like it. However, please do me a favor by coving your model with a glass case. Uncovered models invite dust and cobwebs, plus inquisitive fingers that might destroy you work, and tempt the urge to kill on your part.
