I built that one for somebody a year or so ago.  It looked pretty good with the aircraft ready for launch.

That's insane!

One of their missions was to attack the Panama Canal and hopefully take out the locks which would keep the canal closed and strand any ships already in transit.  They said that when the war ended, the I-400 class subs surfaced of the coast, much to the surprise of the Navy.  Aren't there a couple of their aircraft on display somewhere?  I heard that the subs were sunk after being studied.

Have started work on her Conning Tower and main Deck Gun. Have only kept the Gun Breach and the remainder is detailed with Brass and P/E. More to come later.....Cheers Mark

     I have a question. the inside of the Hangar hatch, Looking at the hinge, Which is quite prominent, Why do you have your ladders sideways?

If you're ever in the area, it's a great musuem to visit.  I've been there a couple of times.  Really nice to see an SR-71, the Enola Gay and a Space Shuttle.  You can get real upclose to each.

If you're looking for an interesting reference book, this one is really good: I-400: Japan's Secret Aircraft-Carrying Strike Submarine: Objective Panama Canal

If I recall correctly, the hull was covered with a rubberized, black coating to deaden sound waves.  I didn't model mine with this coating though.  I used the two tone grey and red scheme.

The interior of the hanger door is correct.

The 'ladders' appear to be for storage bins.

One of the primary things US/USN wanted to study was the tech for the hangar and its door.  And how they got the aircraft sotwed inside.

It was considered vital to learn all this as quickly as possible.  The "captured" (in port) boats were later scuttled by USN so as to keep them from falling into Soviet hands as post-war "reparations."

Some (just how much is a debate) of the hangar tech wound up in the hangars for Regulus missiles on US subs.

Yep I read that somewhere too but I like the Tonal differences of the greys and Red.....Cheers Mark

There is absolutely, positively no way in the world that I could attempt to do those guns. Amazing work.
