The Jeremiah O'Brien is maintained by volunteers. My daughter dated a guy for a while that was in that group. He used to give me chunks of stuff removed for repairs. Gave us a couple of tours too.
I passed up on the shaft tunnel crawl though. About 150 feet long. No way.
One of the more impressive things was the manual steering gear way back in the stern.
Hoses, scrapers, buckets of paint everywhere. A group sailed her to Normandy in 1994 I think.
There was a big pier fire a number of years ago. The J O B and Pampanito SS-383 were towed and saved by SFFD.
