Edmund Fitzgerald model fittings
Posted by webejebe on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 10:16 PM

Hi all, new to the group, I am looking for a place to buy fittings for my Edmund Fitzgerald 1/100 wooden model. I ingerited the unfinished model after my father passed away however, the bag he kept the fittings in was missing. I have no idea what I need or where to get them. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Without nowning the brand of the kit, that will complicate things.

If you are willing to start from generic fittings, Bluejacket has extensive close-enough 1/96 (1/8"=1'-0") scale fittings.

If the brand name still exists, sometimes they can be contated for such parts.

Since it's the Fitz, you will be spared the need to build a self-unloading boom and it's associated lifting structures.  And, you probably don't need the 30 foot "lock ladders" common to modern Lakers.  You will have lots of railings, and ventilators in every shape and size, along with some pretty random stacks for cabin heaters and the galley stoves.

Curious- how do you know the scale? Did you measure the model and do the math?

That would make your model 7.28 feet long. Could be.

The folks around here who seem to know about her as a model are tankerbuilder (Gary) and missileman (Don).

Carr's Hobbies of Duluth, MN offered a 1/192nd (1/16" = 1') model of the FITZGERALD.  The model was 44" long.  Unfortunately Carrs Hobbies closed several years ago.

A guy in Michigan scratch built a r/c 1/96th scale model of the FITZGERALD a few years ago.

For laker fittings I would recommend A J Fisher.
