For real steam powered RC controled HMS Velox Torpedo Boat Destroyer

Found this on youTube.

RC controlled Torpedo boat model of HMS Velox (the first steam turbine military craft - I think) She is beautifully built in 1/48 scale, and is actually powered by a small steam engine that was constructed to look period appropriate. Very cool short video and you've got to love the actual exhaust rising from the forward stack :)

Thanks for the link Joe. As an old R/C boater I found that very interesting. My main builds were cabin cruisers with two 6 volt electric motors, all running lights and interior lights, small tape recorder with sound effects party noise and music. Built one Sterling Battleship Missouri and Dumas PT 109 and a sub (can't remember which kit) that fired electric torpedos. Built a lot more over the years.

Photos of one of my cabin cruisers on display at Phila. Boat Show back in the late 1970's, Big Mo on display at model shop, PT 109 when under construction.

Love to watch those U-tube videos. Had lots of fun with R/C but it got too darn expensive for me.

Stay safe.

Hi!

I still do R.C.. The thing is I have gone back to the "Old Days." I buy a Cheap(In today's world) way to do them. My first was an offshore freighter from sheet lexan and styrene and I stripped a R.C.model of "Bigfoot" for all the R.C.Gear. I use an old Futaba reciever and speed control from somebody else and the steering and servos from the bought R.C.unit. Be it a boat ,Car or Plane.

This has served me well for years. That way I can pick up new gear at Yard and Garage sales. As long as they work I buy them. The stuff some of the modelers buy now, there's no way I'd be able to stay in the game. $700.00 for a 1/24 car, C'mon now!
