If you're willing to spend the money for the YMW Enterprise kit, hy not just get the YMW USS Yorktown CV-5 kit? Already in 1942 fit and good to go. The kit does have the same lower hull problems as the Trumpeter Hornet kit, but otherwise is pretty darn close I have the kit in my "to do" pile and it is impressive.

Trident Hobbies is listing this kit on sale this month.

Thanks for the insight and article reference although it's a bit disappointing for someone who values historical accuracy. I'm sure model design and development is a tricky and difficult process, yet it amazes me how much inaccuracy worms its way into kits. It's almost as if some model designers succomb to temptation to take a "best guess" on features once they become too difficult to research.

After reading that article Jeff I was wondering how accurate the new Revell-Germany "Battle of Midway" carrier is. Thanks!!

Mike Vorassi and I wrote a compare and contrast of the BWN Hornet and Trumpeter Hornet when they came out...it's not pretty, but it does outline the differences (and problems) with both kits.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of! I may indeed go to the earlier plastic edition. Appreciate the feedback.

Regards.

First problem you will encounter is that the CV6 kit is based on 1944 after her major reconstruction. First thing you would have to do is remove the bulges added to 75% of the hull, rebuild the island to the earlier layout, change AA rig etc. You could start with a Trumpeteer Hornet, the Nautilus backdate for early Enterprise / Yorktown, mix in a bunch of PE from Toms, GM & WEM and still be ahead. Just my opinion but seems that the CV-8 would be a much closer fit for what you are looking for.

I'd like to put a couple of questions to our illustrious panel of experts: Does anyone have first-hand experience with Yankee Model Works 1/350 Enterprise (CV 6)? I'd be interested in any impressions/recommendations/concerns.

I'm considering buying is as a potential conversion to the 1942 Yorktown -- how close are they likely to be?

Thanks in advance...
