Where should I buy the expensive GMM?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, May 11, 2004 11:51 AM
Hello all!

I have decided to buy GMM PE set for my new 1/350 (Tamiya) Bismarck.
Strangely, GMM themselves dont sell via credit cards Disapprove [V], so I'll have to look for it somewhere else. where is the best place, that you guys buy?

I've looked around and the price should be 36$ in most places. However! I have purchased before from Hannants in the UK and they dont deliver PE sets unless you buy a kit Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!]Angry [:(!].
Where can I buy just a PE set (and maybe a few paints) and send it by airmail without giving me a headache?

By the way in, Hannants sell's the set for 35/4 pounds, that is 62.1482$!!!!

Why can't you send GMM a money order. You won't find anyone selling their stuff cheaper and with the shipping set at $1.50 for your entire order, they can't be beat.
I checked out Roll Models, they sell that at $36.00 but want $7 to ship. Pacific Front sells the set for $40.00 and $5 to ship.

Send a check or money order to Gold Medal Models and Loren Perry will have your order to you in a week later. (Never fails; at least for me!) And his Bismarck set is a real beauty, too! You'll be glad you got it.

Well, thanks for the advice but...

I live in Israel and the easiest way, for me, is to order with a credit card.
I dont feel it's very safe to send around 40$ in an envelope, someone somewhere (a post office) might just open it up and think "ohh freebie".
Things like that do happen...
And sending checks from israel to the US dosent make sense , the commission to the bank will be around 50$!!!Angry [:(!]!!! I know, a friend of mine checked it.

I dont mind paying an extra 4 or 5, heck even 10$, all I need is a good trust worthy web site, I can order from.

Thanks!

They do mail order and take credit cards sell PE parts and the brilliant colour coats paints. They also have a great web site

This is an interesting problem. You might try the various dealers who advertise at the Steel Navy website (<www.steelnavy.com>). Pacific Front Hobbies and The Naval Base, for instance, carry Gold Medal products, and each of them can be accessed through an icon at that site.

Incidentally, if you aren't familiar with the Steel Navy site, you have a treat in store. Be prepared to spend some time there.

Good luck!

I just checked the Steel Navy site. Pacific Front Hobbies sells the set in questions for $30.00, and The Naval Base sells it for $28.00 (plus shipping). Both take credit cards. I didn't check on their policies regarding overseas shipments, but I believe they're accustomed to such activities.

Hope this helps.

Personally I try to avoid doing business with Pacific Front. Took FOREVER to get my order. Never did get everything. No repeat business from me. I buy my GMM PE strait from GMM themselves. I order by mail and send a check. White ensign models are really great people too. Nothing but great things to say about them.

Pacific Front sells GMM but the Bismarck set is $40 and when I looked at Naval Base it was $36. Where is it at 28, I can use that set also and 28 is a great price. Roll Models is a good site and the set is listed at $36.

Uhh, which site would that be? Steelnavy? Good site, yes, but I used to co-webmaster Modelwarships.com, check that one out. You can also see most of my ship work there.
