1:350 IJN Shinano?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, May 14, 2004 1:41 PM
Does anyone know of a set of plans to convert a 1:350 tamiya yamato or musashi hull into the shinano? I bought a partially built musashi kit at garage sale. Rather than look for the lost parts somewhere I thought it might me more interesting to try my hand at a conversion. Thanks.

Firstly, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to FSM Mate!

I don't know of any 'conversion plans' per se, but there's a few conversion articles on the web. I've collected some stuff, and here's a few bits that may help.

The first is Tamiya's 350th Yamoto to Shinano, the sites Japanese, but has an English translation, and unfortunately its only model photos:

Doyusha builds a 1:250 scale Shinano. Maybe getting a photo copy of the instruction sheet off the owner may help as a subsitute for conversion plans. You u can use some ideas off these Review Article's & Model Photo's:

I know someone is converting the Nichimo 1:200 Yamoto to Shinano, but can't find their web address.

Some of these guys like Steel Navy's Bill Waldorf says he is happy to help, so u could email him directly as his email address is supplied.

Also very little real-life reference photos exist. Dont use Tamiyas 1/700 scale Shinano as a basis for your conversion because I think there are some minor inaccurate bow & flightdeck stuff (dont quote me on that Smile [:)]). Seeing that you have a 2nd-hand kit, and some of it may be partly built or even it might have lost parts, some scratch-building & kit-bashing may be needed.

Anyway, Good Luck Cool [8D] - and keep us posted of any plans and how your Shinano is going!
