sub group build?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, May 22, 2004 1:24 PM
Hello,
would anyone like to participate in a WW2 sub group build? If so these are the rules,
Must be WW2 era,
no particular scale, no particular company, you are not required to use PE or
accessories unless you want to. It can be American, German, or any other type of WW2 subs.
If you want you can put it in "water" or not that's fine. I would like some suggetions for start and stop dates. I think sometime in july would be good for a start date.
The start date is July 20 and the end date is August 31.
thanks,
seakinght

yeah - i would love to have a 'Naval Subject Grp Bld'. I was thinking about this for around 2-months now. You cant do ships in a group build cos us ship guys take our time with our complex and detailed masterpieces. But a Sub GB would be ideal! There's some good subjects out there!

Seaknight i came to this section of the forum to ask if anyone had ever thought of a sub GB.
So count me in my GB subject will be Revells 1/72 type 7c U-BOAT.

Heres a pic of one of my favourite subs.

July/Aug is cool 4 me!

probably make the build peroid 2mths - enough time for sea dio's or serious weathering detail! - LOL - I was only thinking about 700, 400 & 125 scale models - Hahaha - I forgot Revells 1/72 mutha-of-a-sub!

hey,
i think that we will stick to the rules above. i was thinking about doing a 1/220 sub. Not everyone wants to do those particular scales. Well keep it to all scales.

Seaknight: you might want to put up a list in your first post of who's in the GB. I'll tell you tommorow if you don't see this...

Ok fellas i was thinking about a GB tag and i came up with this.
I lack the computer skills to make a proper tag but i thought this would be appropriate for a sub GB.
Luke if we agree on a tag like this can you take it and turn it into a proper one.
Afterall you did a great job on the Aussie GB tag.

I was thinking something like this. I may check out some of my sub & u-boat books plus check out www.uboat.net for some similar photos. I love that one but I got some ideas on how to spruce it up!

seakinght - send an email to David Voss or Admin to make this a "sticky" post. Also, we need a start date and a finish date posted in the rules. And I dont think anyone should use the Grp Bld badge until they post pics of their finish sub/s.

Smile [:)] I got a 1/350 Type XXI today Smile [:)]
but seeing you guys are doing larger scales, I may get ? Mirages 1/400 models as well (they have some DKM & IJN subs).

so, bring on the start date . . .

Luke that was just my basic idea so buy all means spruse it up.Wink [;)]
I agree on not using the GB tag until we finish our subs.

Okay my type V11c U-Boat is going to be U556 commanded by KL Herbert Wolhfarth.
I chose this subject because it has an unusual splinter camo scheme.

I will give you boys a sneak preview now!!

Here it is (a drum roll is heard in the background) . . .

**this has been removed by me as of 06062004**

It may take a couple of extra seconds to download. I'm not entirely 100% happy with it. I'm thinking of scratching this one and starting a new one. But this is what it will look like when done. I still need to downsize it's memory size and locked the picture in, but what do you think?

please don't download this picture now, cos I'll have the final-copy ready for distribution in time for our july 20th start date!

Luke the GB tag looks great!!!!!
I won't be downloading it until you have it ready, and i won't be putting it in my Sig until the Sub is done.
I won't be drilling out the deck holes only the ones in the hull.come to think of it i won't be drilling out any holes, much easier to sand them out from the inside.
I'll be using a black pemanent marker probably a 001 for the deck.
Talk to you fellas soon.

Okay you Blokes i'll have the 1/72 U-boat of layby at the end of the week so i'll stick up a pic of the sprues.
I'll also post apic of the genuine article,U 556 tied up,but be warned the photo goes across 2 pages of the book so it will have a nasty line through the guts of it.

The pic is pretty sad but it gives an idea of what mine should look like.
