hi all, i'm new here as you can tell and i have a question or two. where can i find a trumpeter's 1/350 u.s.s. arizona battleship kit. for those of you who have built either or both banner's and trumpeter's 1/350 arizona kits, which is the better kit, and why. thank you in anticipation of your replies. regards, jonathon hass

The Banner and Trumpeter are the SAME kit. There is also a third by Minihobby. I got my Banner kit last March at Hobby Lobby during their 1/2 price sale.

These kits by far are the best for a 1/350 Arizona. They can be both full hull or waterline. Some kits under Minihobby and Trumpeter were motorized. My Banner kit has the hull set up for motorization so some modification needs to be done to make it look scale.

The only other issue with these kits are the seaplanes. The kit deplicts the Arizona in 1941 so it has Kingfishers. These planes look like dimestore toys and nothing like a Kingfisher. I found that White Ensign Models has resin Kingfishers, and the older Curtis O2s and are reasonably priced.

G.L. is right. There are some great photo etched brass sets out there for the Arizona and you can get some truly stunning results. I used the Gold Medal Models set and the Tom's Modelworks ship's boats set. It made mine a prize winner!

I'm not familiary with either of the 1/350 kits, but I do have a new Dragon Arizona in 1/700. It's a terrific kit - complete with turned brass main battery barrels and (get this) boats and aircraft molded in clear plastic. (You paint everything but the windows and canopies.) It also contains a sheet of photo-etched detail parts. The latter, in my opinion, aren't quite up to the standard of the rest of the kit. Gold Medal Models, however, makes a superb "U.S. Battleship" set that contains parts for the Arizona, including the catapults and cranes on the fantail.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

i'm just starting work on a 1/350 academy R.M.S. Titanic and have a set of photoetch for that, but, i haven't ever tried using it before. is there a section here that offers tips on how to properly bend that stuff ? any and all tips would be very appreciated. also, since i went to all that trouble of drilling out all the portholes, i decided to "light it up" as it were. any help with that idea would be welcome as well. i'll probably be using some of the same techniques and ideas when it comes to the arizona as well. thanks in advance, JH
