Sealing Alclad
Posted by Big Jake on Monday, June 7, 2004 10:26 PM
Hi,

Does anyone what is the best type of sealer to put over alclad. I'm bulding a 1/48th. B-29 and would like to seal the alclad before putting on the "Black de-icing boot" without messing up the paint.

Hi Jake,

I have two recommendations, both are techniques I use...

I now swear by Future mixed with Tamiya X-21 Flat base for dull cote, but Testors makes a Metallizer Sealer thats sprayed right out of the jar. I've used it with good results over Alclad and SnJ, as well as Metallizer.

Does the sealer dull the finish?

Testors sealer for buffable paints actually Brings out the shine of the paint. I model what was called streamlined passenger trains (passenger trains in the natural stainless steel finish).

I was reading the bottle and they do not want you using any type of sealer. I guess I will need a pair of cotton gloves to put on the De-icing boot?????
