This past Christmas my daughter got me the JAG 1/700 scale USS Virginia (CGN-38). It's a waterline resin model with some photo-etched parts.
I found a book by Mike Ashey called "Basics of Ship Modeling" or "The Basics of Ship Building"(looks like the same book) on the Naval Base Hobbies website. http://www.modelshipbuilding.com/. It's advertised as "The bible today for the Resin Model shipbuilder". I've got the book and it does have a lot of information on resin kits. Tried finding it locally, but had no luck.
As far as your glue problem goes, I've used super glue on plastic models and had no trouble. Try using a paperclip or a needle with a broken eye as an applicator and be careful where you put your fingers.
