Bounty drops anchor

This is a pretty cool ship. If you ever get a chance to get on board you'll love poking around on it. Just remember it was built to accomodate cameras and equipment so the interior is a little more hollywood than historical.

The 18thc. British Navy crew I'm part of has had the opportunity to play on this boat quite a bit when it was docked here in Florida and its amazing to think that this thing has made some incredible journeys since its use in the movie. I hope they did some considerable repairs since it left because it was in pretty bad shape when it left here. It was never built to last as long as it has, because as you said the intent was to burn it.

When the Bounty came to New Orleans back in 1988, I went to see it with a friend. The ship was in general disrepair, and messy. Large pieces of "foam/fiberglass" pieces were missing. it was dirty and needed paint badly. I would have thought that the foundation would had made sure that the ship was in good condition before sending it out on a money making promo tour? I hope they have cleaned it up and made it "shipshape".

While I did not board the ship from 30 feet away she looked to be in pretty good shape. She looked to be in comparable condition to the other tall ships that come through here.

A few months ago, there was an article on the CNN website about the Foundation drydocking her for an extensive rebuild after this summers cruise. The plans are for her to make the voyages of the orginal Bounty after the rebuild.
