Go the Samek route for the 1:700 scale Texas. It is your best bet.

Another manufacturer that was not mentioned is HP Models. Their quality is very good too.

Stay away from a Texas by Viking Models. Poor quality, severe warping, miscast parts. Viking is out of business and no one will buy the POS model of theirs I have in the stash.

The Commanders Texas is very nice in 1:350 scale. If you care to step back in time Commanders also makes a 1898 version of the Texas in 1:350 scale and 1:192 scale. One of their patternmakers had the hull of a 1:700 scale 1898 Texas on display at the Nats back in July. It may be acavailable before the end of the year.

The new Virginia-class sub USS Texas can be made from the YankeeModelworks Virginia. Buy the decal set and it has name and number decals for the Virgina, Texas, North Carolina, and New Hampshire.

Or if you don't want to wait for a kit, you can scratchbuild like Derek Brown did: "Scratchbuilding the USS Texas," in the Jan. 2003 FSM.

Try http://www.pacificfront.com they carry a brand called Samek. Samek makes a 1/700 USS Texas. I believe the kit is of the ship in her 1945 configuration.

Chasing the ultimate build.

Yes, I've toured it exyensively when I was a teacher of Texas history in the Houston area...it's always held a special place on the list of my favorite battleships.

I got lucky Cool [8D]
Umi_Ryuzuki
I couldn't find a model of it when I visited the ship 2 years ago. Lots of t-shirts, hats, pins, etc but no models.
I have been lucky to board both this ship and the USS Alabama in Mobile. Now just got to get the Hawaii and visit the Arizona and Missouri.

I am normally not a "shipper" but I am trying to find a USS Texas under $100 USD. Also, preferably smaller than 1/350 scale.
